The Air Force Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base, California will host the B-21 Combined Test Force and the Air Force Sustainment Center at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma is the site for depot planning. In 2019, the Air Force completed the Strategic Basing Process announcing Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri and Dyess Air Force Base, Texas are the preferred locations for B-21 main operating bases.Īfter completing the Environmental Impact Statement process as required by the National Environmental Policy Act and other regulatory processes, in 2021, the Air Force named Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota as the first B-21 main operating base and location of the Formal Training Unit. In 2018, the program successfully conducted the weapon systems Critical Design Review, a comprehensive program-wide evaluation of design maturity, stability and risk. Northrop Grumman’s partners on the B-21 program include Pratt & Whitney, Janicki Industries, Collins Aerospace, GKN Aerospace, BAE Systems and Spirit Aerosystems. The Air Force awarded the B-21 Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract to Northrop Grumman on October 27th, 2015. The Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office leads the development of the B-21 Raider under the direction of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment and the Secretary of the Air Force. The B-21 is being designed with open systems architecture to reduce integration risk and enable competition for future modernization efforts to allow for the aircraft to evolve as the threat environment changes. Additionally, it will be able to employ a broad mix of stand-off and direct-attack munitions. It will be nuclear capable and designed to accommodate manned or unmanned operations. The B-21 Raider will be a component of a larger family of systems for conventional Long Range Strike, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, electronic attack, communication and other capabilities. Designed to operate in tomorrow’s high-end threat environment, the B-21 will play a critical role in ensuring America’s enduring airpower capability. The B-21 will form the backbone of the future Air Force bomber force consisting of B-21s and B-52s. This is only useful in a pitched battle in general, you should conquer enemy IC's and not destroy them.īut yeah, rule of thumbs, if you want to go nuclear, wait for rockets. The B-21 Raider will be a dual-capable penetrating strike stealth bomber capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear munitions. Nukies are expensive for this purpose though. Both can be used to take out IC's, especially the unupgraded ones which are expensive to repair. Strat bombers can be used as damage soakers in 5/5 tac/int stacks. Nuke bombers can take out any size air stack if you catch them at their base and strat bombers can inflict significant damages as well. Due to their big range, they can target enemy air bases with (refuelling) planes which are out of reach for tacs (while they are much faster to deploy to the right place than rockets). While I agree that the nuke and strat bombers are bad units generally, they do have some uses. I haven`t managed to drop him on big stack yet. So my question is how does other people use it, is there something I do not know about using Nuclear bombers. I had opportunity to see my stock hit by atomic bomber and in stock were 6 SP anti air level 4, sp arty level 4, and 5 light tanks. Only if there is some way to drop bombs on units with aa guns. I think it is not worth to research them at all. Strategic bombers and Nuclear bombers are two useless units. It is wrong to compare atomic bomber like other bombers because they do not have to drop bombs from same height as normal bombers so they should be less vulnerable to AA guns. But my plane crushed without making any damage. There in stack were tanks and infantry, but hardly they managed to have air defence about 30. I aimed stack with 3 aa guns level 2, their air defence is about 18.
